Tips for a happy, healthy Thanksgiving

Next post

We all know Thanksgiving is typically a holiday of indulgence—who doesn’t want to leave the table with a full stomach, a happy heart, and an irresistible urge to curl up and nap? Still, there are plenty of easy ways to make sure your holiday is truly satisfying and good for your oral health:

Eat sugary or sticky foods with the main meal. Eating sweet Thanksgiving staples like cranberry sauce and candied yams with vegetable and protein dishes ensures that a sticky bacteria-attracting film isn’t left to linger on your teeth.

Keep the water flowing. Drinking lots of water keeps you hydrated and washes away food particles. It also keeps dry mouth at bay, giving bacteria less chance to settle on teeth.

Add mouth-healthy options to the menu. This doesn’t mean serving anything bland or eyebrow-raising! Dairy products like cheese contain tons of calcium and protein, both of which are good for tooth enamel. High-fiber foods like corn, broccoli, apples, and beans require more chewing, which promotes healthy saliva production and naturally polishes teeth.

Floss well after feasting. Shreds of turkey, green beans, and other stringy foods are more likely to get wedged between teeth, so brush and floss thoroughly.
